Hiking Colorado: Lair o' the Bear + Morrison Treats

This wasn't our first trip to Lair o' the Bear because it's hard to beat hiking 20 min from home. So with looming afternoon storms forecasted we headed back for more adventures. This time around we went a different direction on the Bear Creek Trail. Even though you are stay pretty close to the road, the road noise was very minimal and often drowned out by the noise of the creek you follow.

Our whole hike the preschooler kept insisting on throwing rocks in the creek, but we managed to keep that as the final destination point so we could get some hiking in. I think we went for about 45 minutes before turning around to head back to the cars, all the while scouting a good place to stop for splashing in the creek.

Being so close to Denver, this trail is very popular. You have hikers of all levels, strollers, bikers so be prepared! On the way to the trail, you pass through the cutest town of Morrison (which is where the Red Rocks Amphitheater is) so we took the opportunity to stop for some ice cream at Mill Street Eats where the kids enjoyed ice cream and the grown-ups an adult beverage.

If you need a kid-friendly trail close to Denver with no elevation change then Lair o' the Bear is for you!
