Five Years of Wedded Bliss

Well Reid and I have definitely become accustom to everything being about Carson now, but I can't forget to post about the special anniversary we had this year. Not only did we survive the first year of parenthood, we celebrated our 5 year anniversary the next day. We celebrated by going out on the Kansas City Plaza and staying the night in the same hotel we stayed at on our wedding night. It wasn't much, but it was nice to spend some time together and out celebrating with friends. I couldn't have picked a better partner to take this crazy life journey on with. We've made it through two cross country moves, 3 years of law school and the first year of our first born and it's only the beginning. Can't wait to see what else is in store for us in the years to come.

Carson: 12 Months

My oh my we have a ONE YEAR OLD! I can not even believe how fast this past year went. We went to Carson's check-up on his birthday and the poor guy got 4 shots :( But in other news he is a healthy, happy growing boy!! He is such a sweet guy and is a great napper still, which is one reason I'm still able to work from home with him. He isn't walking yet but loves to cruise all around the couches. His new thing now is to throw things. It's cute when he throws the ball to Snyder or to you to play catch, but it's not cute when the cup, food, his binkie, etc go over the side of the high chair or down the stairs (followed by fussing because he can't reach them anymore). But I try to make it positive and think about how much he is growing and developing and showing his own individuality. We have truly been blessed by this little one!

Newborn: 8lbs 6.3oz and 20.5in
Two Weeks: 9lbs 1oz and 21in
Two Months: 12lbs 9.5oz and 25in
Four Months: 13lbs 13oz and 25.5in
Five Months: 13lbs 11.5oz and 26in
Six Months: 13lbs 7oz and 26.5in
Seven Months: 14lbs 5.5oz and 26.75in
Eight Months: 16lbs 15.5oz and 28in
Nine Months: 18lbs and 28.75in
Twelve Months: 21lbs 10oz and 30in

Now on to celebrate Carson's birthday! We were planning on traveling back to Kansas later in the day but first up was a lunch date with mommy and her friend. He did so well during his first real restaurant experience. We went to True Food Kitchen in Cherry Creek and it was delicious (and healthy). I highly recommend if you're visiting Denver.

And now on to our trip. Carson did ok during the drive to Kansas. We planned it so he would start his bedtime for most of the car ride, giving us a good chunk of time to just drive. Our plan worked pretty well and he even went back to sleep when we got to Kansas at 3am (well after a minor meltdown from being in a new place and hungry). So now it's party time. I had planned on a "Little Man" theme and the decorations and food could not have come together any better. Carson's Nonni made his birthday cake and cupcakes and they were delicious!! When it came time for the "smash cake" Carson seemed to be more about picking at the food than digging in. But boy did he love the frosting! We were so excited that we had lots of family and friends come over to celebrate. Thanks to everyone for making his party special.

And of course we couldn't leave Kansas without a trip to Deanna Rose Children's Farmstead. Despite being tired, he loved the big animals. I can't wait for him to go back when he's a little older.

My First Mother's Day

Despite the dreary, snowy (yes SNOW!) weather, I had the most joyful day. I am so thankful for my wonderful son who made it possible for me to celebrate today in the first place. Last year I was weeks away from meeting him, and today I get to (try to) hold and cuddle him and tell him how much I love him. He brings me so much joy (although it isn't always easy) and I am so honored to be his mommy.

My first mother's day also wouldn't have been perfect without my amazing husband. As I type, I'm sitting next to a burning candle and flowers in a green-painted mason jar sipping on a Malbec, but that's not where it began. He made breakfast this morning (not served in bed as he does not believe in eating in your bed), sent Carson and I to mommy-and-me yoga and spent his afternoon cleaning our house, cooking and cutting up all the fresh fruit I bought yesterday. I admit there are times I don't think he fully understands or appreciates all that I do or how much stress I endure, but today he made me feel very much appreciated and it was so nice to enjoy a stress-free day.

Happy Mother's Day to all the moms I know, and especially my mom and mother-in-law! I wish everyday we lived closer to you guys so you could watch Carson grow (but then I remember I'd be living in Kansas again ;)) At least we are close enough now to make lots of trips back home!! I hope you all have nice relaxing days and still know how much you are appreciated even though we aren't nearby to show it.
